Puglia: leggende, utopie, visioni
Solo show curated by Roberto Lacarbonara.
Site-specific project carried out at Microba, Bari, an exhibition space coextensive with the architects’ studio.
In this place where the profession of constructing public and private spaces is practiced – the dwelling of a house, the cohabitation of a condominium, the community of a street or a square – I have created a scaled version of the same space to depict its stratifications, making the overlap between the object and its own replication estranging.
Selected for the 20th Cairo Prize, I created a cardboard scaled-down version of the office of the 2018 Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, taking the scene from a live social media stream.
On this occasion, the minister proudly displays on the wall, as if it were a poster, the notice of guarantee that accuses him of kidnapping after the blockade of migrants at sea, in a finely furnished location designed to communicate with voters.

“Teresa Giannico appropriates images of everyday objects to give life, through an analogical process of manipulation, to suspended and ambiguous scenarios, reflecting her iconographic baggage.
Born and raised in the province of Bari, for the exhibition Erosioni the artist has produced a work inspired by objects and sensations related to her place of origin. The result is a dreamlike space, a composition of elements of memory that transport us into the enchanted vision that Teresa Giannico holds of Puglia.”

Residency carried out in Palermo within the collateral events of “Manifesta 12”, for Viasaterna.
I lived in an apartment in the historic center for a week, which became my work space for the occasion.
For the residence, I created a portion of the apartment to scale with cartoons and digital image prints, including the works of artists who had previously passed through there.
